Around here, shrimp is a common dish at our table. I enjoy it because it’s a fast and simple meal to prepare, making it great for hectic evenings. It’s also extremely adaptable.
And really, who can resist delicious crispy shrimp? The great news is that you can achieve that same crispy taste without frying! This Oven Baked Shrimp recipe eliminates the need for deep frying, making it an easy weeknight dinner option. Now, let’s discuss the ingredients needed for this dish.

Crispy Oven Baked Shrimp Ingredients:

SHRIMP:

Shrimp is typically sold by size per pound. For this recipe, I suggest using larger shrimp so they can bake longer. Extra large shrimp (26 to 30 in a pound) or Colossal shrimp (16 to 20 per pound) work best. I also like to keep the tails on. If you need assistance with deveining, be sure to refer to my How to Devein Shrimp guide.

FLOUR:

This helps the shrimp to have a coating and gives the egg something to stick to.

EGG:

This will assist in making sure the breading sticks to the shrimp.

PANKO BREAD CRUMBS:

When making a coating for seafood or chicken, I love using panko bread crumbs. They create the crispiest crust without being overly heavy.

OLIVE OIL:

This will assist in browning the coating while it cooks.

GRANULATED GARLIC:

You may substitute with garlic powder if preferred. Use garlic salt and skip any extra salt if that’s what you choose.

PAPRIKA:

This adds a hint of smokiness and color to the coating.

SALT/PEPPER

NON-STICK COOKING SPRAY:

This prevents shrimp from sticking to the baking sheet and aids in browning as they cook.

Step by Step Photos and Instructions:

  1. Making these crispy oven baked shrimp is simple! Setting up an assembly line will help streamline the process. Use these step-by-step photos and instructions to guide you.
  2. First, dredge in seasoned flour.
  3. Next, dip into egg wash.
  4. Then, dredge in seasoned panko.
  5. Finally, bake.

STEP 1:

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F. Spray a 10 by 15-inch baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

STEP 2:

In a shallow dish, mix flour with 1/4 teaspoon each of salt, paprika, pepper, and granulated garlic.

STEP 3:

In another shallow dish, whisk egg together with 1 tablespoon of water.

STEP 4:

In a third dish, blend bread crumbs with any remaining salt, paprika, pepper, and granulated garlic.

STEP 5:

Coat each shrimp in flour, shaking off the extra, then dip in the egg, followed by dredging in the panko mixture.

STEP 6:

Arrange the shrimp in a single layer on the baking sheet that you prepared. Bake for 4 minutes. After that, flip them and bake for an additional 4 minutes or until they are golden brown. You may also use the broiler for 1 to 2 minutes to enhance browning. However, watch them closely as the broiler can quickly cause burning.

STEP 7:

Move the shrimp to a serving dish, and if desired, add parsley on top as a garnish. Serve right away. Crispy Oven Baked Shrimp are amazing when dipped in homemade tartar sauce or cocktail sauce.

Storage and Leftovers:

Keep any remaining shrimp in a sealed container in the refrigerator and consume within a few days. They can be reheated in a low-temperature oven (300 degrees F) until they are hot throughout.
