Why create your own chicken thigh seasoning?

For years, I have been purchasing readymade spice mixes without really checking the ingredient list. I simply grabbed the ones I enjoyed and was content with that. Most of the prepackaged seasonings I used listed salt as the primary component, which made it difficult to determine how much to add in my dishes.
I understood how much salt a specific dish required overall, but I was unsure about the right amount to use in combination with other spices. Consequently, the meat sometimes turned out bland or overly salty.
While searching for a new spice mix one day, I started to examine the labels to find out what distinguished each one. I observed that salt was consistently at the top of the ingredient list.
Since the items are organized by quantity used, with salt leading, I realized that I was mainly spending money on salt. This revelation motivated me to craft my own spice blend.
Now that I possess a grill, I frequently prepare grilled chicken. This also allows me numerous opportunities to experiment with different spice quantities in my blend to discover the best combination. AT LAST! I’ve found my favorite mix, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

What is the method for baking chicken in the oven?

First, season the chicken with spices. Next, place the chicken in a baking dish and roast it in the middle of the oven at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 to 55 minutes for dark pieces (such as thighs, drumsticks, and wings) and 30 minutes for chicken breast. The chicken is cooked when you poke it and clear juices come out.

Total Time:

1 hour 5 minutes Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

What you will need for making Baked Chicken Thighs with Paprika:
8 chicken thighs (bonein and skinless, totaling about 1 pound 3 ounces)
2 tablespoons of Paprika Spice Mix for Chicken (see recipe below)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons mayonnaise or oil (olive oil or vegetable oil)
2 tablespoons of chopped parsley for garnish Paprika Spice Blend for Chicken and Beef (use just 2
tablespoons in this recipe)
4 tablespoons smoked paprika
3 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
3 tablespoons black pepper
1 pinch cayenne pepper
3 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions

How to Prepare Paprika Spice Mix for Chicken and Beef:

In a small container, mix all the ingredients for the meat spice blend and shake well until combined. You will only need 2 tablespoons for the recipe (see Note 1). Keep the rest for later use.

How to Cook the Chicken:

Position the oven rack in the center and preheat to 450 degrees.
Trim the skin and any extra fat from the chicken thighs. In a ziplock bag or a large mixing bowl, add the 8 chicken thighs (1 pound 3 ounces), 2 tablespoons of oil or mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of the Paprika Spice Blend, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix well, rubbing the spices into the chicken.
Bake uncovered in the preheated oven at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 to 55 minutes, or until you can easily pierce the thighs with a fork or knife and juices run clear when checked. Use an instantread thermometer in the thickest part to ensure it reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you like, add some chopped parsley on top as a garnish.

Notes

The paprika chicken spice mix has wellbalanced spice amounts, and reducing the quantity might lead to odd measurements that are hard to get right. If you prefer to make just enough seasoning for this dish, here’s a smaller scaled version.
